Social value

At Exemplar Health Care, we believe that our impact extends beyond the walls of our care homes, reaching into the communities we serve.

We’re dedicated to creating positive change by focusing on key areas such as employment, training, social and community engagement, innovation, environmental sustainability, and health and wellbeing.

We strive to provide meaningful employment opportunities and comprehensive training programmes that equip our colleagues with the skills they need to deliver exceptional care.

Our commitment to social and community involvement ensures that we not only support those in our care but also contribute to the broader wellbeing of our neighbourhoods.

Innovation drives us to continually improve our services, while our focus on environmental sustainability helps protect the planet for future generations.

Finally, we prioritise the health and wellbeing of both our colleagues and the people we support, ensuring that everyone can live life to the fullest.

Through these efforts, we aim to create lasting value that benefits individuals, families and communities across the UK.

Employment

We proudly employ over 5,300 colleagues across 50+ locations in England, with most of our team living within five miles of their workplace.

We're committed to paying everyone the National Living Wage, regardless of age, and offer additional top-up rates for those with relevant qualifications.

In FY24, we're opening eight new care homes, which will create 800 additional job opportunities. Our diverse team includes Health Care Assistants, Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Administrators, Receptionists, Cooks, Catering Managers, Housekeepers and Maintenance Operatives.

By investing in local talent and offering competitive wages and opportunities for career growth, we aim to make a positive impact on both our colleagues and the communities we serve.

Training, education and skills

Through the Exemplar Health Care Academy, we're dedicated to fostering professional growth and development with a range of training and educational opportunities. We provide:

  • over 15 mandatory training modules that build essential knowledge and skills for high-quality care

  • more than 50 clinical skills eLearning modules designed to ensure safety and enhance outcomes

  • four comprehensive leadership and management programs, tailored for managers at all levels to drive success

  • a variety of fully-funded apprenticeships covering care, leadership, catering and business services.

Our commitment to continuous learning ensures that our colleagues are well-equipped to deliver exceptional care and advance their careers.

Social and community

We take pride in our active role within local communities.

Over 50% of the people we support have experienced previous failed placements. Our holistic approach to care breaks this cycle, reducing re-admissions to hospital and secure settings.

We actively collaborate with local primary schools, inviting students to our new homes to plant time capsules, which helps foster a sense of community.

Additionally, we engage with schools, colleges and universities to discuss employment and training opportunities, thereby supporting local education and career development.

Beyond our employed workforce, we also contribute to the community by using local services such as window cleaners, gardeners and taxi companies.

Our commitment to these initiatives strengthens our community connections and enhances the wellbeing of those we support.

Innovation

We're committed to innovation through our digital transformation journey, which aims to enhance our ways of working and improve care delivery.

We've introduced Sexuality Champions to ensure that individuals’ needs related to love, sex and relationships are met with the highest standards.

Our specialist dementia units are designed based on Stirling University’s ‘Designing for Dementia’ principles, creating supportive environments tailored to the needs of those with dementia.

Additionally, our Service User Ambassador initiative empowers individuals to develop life skills and promotes co-production at all levels of our company.

Through these innovations, we continuously strive to elevate the quality of care and support we provide.

Environment

We're dedicated to environmental sustainability through various initiatives.

Colleagues have the opportunity to participate in an electric car salary sacrifice scheme, which helps reduce emissions.

We partner with Biffa for waste management and actively promote recycling and waste segregation.

Our new care homes are designed with several eco-friendly features, including solar panels on the roof to generate electricity, energy-efficient LED lighting, air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points in the car parks.

Additionally, we use the Blueleaf N-kind range of products across our homes. These plant-based, multi-purpose cleaning products reduce the need for locked storage, streamline our inventory from ten products to three and generate significant savings in transportation and storage.

Through these efforts, we strive to minimise our environmental impact and enhance our sustainability practices.

Health and wellbeing

We're committed to the health and wellbeing of our colleagues through a range of supportive initiatives.

We've trained over 100 colleagues as Mental Health First Aiders to provide vital support.

Our Employee Assistance Programme offers 24/7 advice and support from trained counsellors, including access to counseling sessions.

Additionally, colleagues can utilise our online Wellbeing Centre, which provides resources and support for exercise, diet, financial planning and mental health.

We also offer discounts at hundreds of retailers and access to financial planning tools to promote good financial health.

Through these efforts, we aim to support the overall wellbeing of our team and foster a healthy, balanced work environment.
