Our respiratory care supports adults living with respiratory disorders or lung diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis, as well as those who require interventions such as tracheostomies and ventilators.
We provide specialist assessments, training and treatments to help people breathe more easily and live more comfortably with fewer restrictions.
Through this, we aim to maintain or reduce symptoms, promote self-management, minimise risk and complications, and facilitate rehabilitation wherever possible.
Providing this care in our community-based homes reduces demand on NHS services and emergency admissions.
Our approach to respiratory care
We work with individuals, their loved ones and professionals to ensure that our home is right for the person.
This involves a detailed clinical needs assessment, a community fit assessment, and input from Exemplar Health Care clinical experts, including our Link Nurse for respiratory care.
Thanks to our high staffing levels that are based on individual need, we can adapt our approach and care to meet every person’s needs.
Together with loved ones and fellow professionals, we design individual care plans that reflect a person’s holistic needs.
Respiratory care interventions and treatments
Our team is trained in the management of invasive and non-invasive ventilation, allowing people breathe comfortably.
Some of the types of respiratory care we provide include:
tracheostomy care
invasive and non-invasive ventilation
airway suctioning
cough assist
oxygen therapy and monitoring.
Our Nurse-led teams are skilled in monitoring vital signs, oxygen saturation levels and respiratory function, allowing for early detection of any potential issues.
For people with tracheostomies, our Registered Nurses can carry out the 28 day tube change in the home, reducing demand on NHS services.
